The end of last year saw EventCity play host to Red Bull’s Switch Up event, offering netball players from across the country a chance to experience a versatile version of the original concept game, whilst turning our venue into an impressive competition court.
The all-female event saw teams of four players per side compete for two five – minute halves on a half-court with just one goal. With no set positions – and everyone able to shoot – the games championed the best ‘all round player.’ The games included two scoring zones, goals scored inside the D scored one point and any outside the D scored three points.
Being the largest exhibition venue in the north, EventCity’s expert in-house team helped to give the tournament wings, with 30 teams competing against one another.
Speaking on the success of the event, Sue Dodds, Sales Manager at EventCity, said: “it is amazing to have paired with such an established brand to raise the profile of women’s sport in the UK. It was a really great day, everyone was in high spirits and the audience were very supportive of the players.”
A real treat for netball fans, UK player Eboni Usoro – Brown was also in attendance to oversee the games and meet the players.
Over the years, Red Bull has shaped the game of netball, turning it into a distinctive tournament where players can break and shape their own destiny to become winners – which is what the brand targets to work towards.
Commenting on the sport in the UK, England player, Helen Housby, said: “After a massive year for netball, it’s great to see tournaments such as Switch Up continuing that hype and passion for the sport here in the UK. “It’s a fantastic way to champion the growing talent we have here in the UK and to allow for players to really get the recognition they deserve.”
