Manchester Set To Clean Up With Major New Trade Exhibition
The Cleaning Show comes North to Event City for the first time in its 44 year history.

The Cleaning Show, the country’s premier business-to-business trade event which focusses on the commercial and industrial cleaning sector, is coming to Manchester’s Event City on April 6-7. The exhibition - which was first held at London’s Olympia in London in 1972 - has never come to the North before, and is expected to attract over 2,000 visitors from across the UK.

All 2,200 square metres of exhibition space, the size of nearly three football pitches, is already nearly sold out with companies from as far afield as Turkey and Italy booking stands. They will be joining over 80 other manufacturers and suppliers, including Cheshire-based chemicals giant Greyland and leading pressure washer brand Karcher, for the two-day expo.

In addition there will be a packed seminar programme with speakers set to address a wide range of key issues within the cleaning sector. There will be presentations from The Home Office, The Health and Safety Executive and other policy makers together with senior spokespeople from major trade associations, including the European Federation of Cleaning Industries, and leading businesses.

One of the reasons for there is such enthusiasm and interest in the exhibition is the sheer size of the cleaning sector and its value to the UK economy. Figures from the British Cleaning Council, the national organisation which represents all of the UK’s main cleaning disciplines, estimates that the UK cleaning industry has an annual turnover of over £8 billion and employs nearly half a million people.

Andy Orr, Managing Director of Event City, said: “Getting the Cleaning Show to come to Manchester is fantastic as it’s never been held in the North before despite having been going for over 40 years. It’s also really encouraging that with well over two months still to go around 1,300 people have already registered to attend, and nearly all the stands have already gone. In my experience not many inaugural trade shows take-off quite as quickly as that outside of London. ”

Nik Wyers, joint Managing Director of Sale-based cleaning and facilities management company Floorbrite, which employs over 1,000 people, said: "As a Manchester business based just ten minutes away from the exhibition venue we’re delighted that the Cleaning Show is coming to our home city. The cleaning sector is a major employer, in both Greater Manchester and across the region, and contributes millions in GVA to the local economy, and yet its commercial significance is often vastly under appreciated. Floorbrite is therefore greatly looking forward to exhibiting on its own patch, at a show of this scale and importance, for the first time.”

Simon Hollingbery, Chairman of The British Cleaning Council, which is helping organise the Manchester exhibition, said: “For many people not involved in contract cleaning it is virtually an invisible industry, but without it society wouldn’t be able to function properly. This event, the first of its kind in the North, will showcase every type of cleaning specialisation and will feature new product demonstrations, offer great networking opportunities and be a platform for discussion. It will also celebrate what is a highly professional, responsible and increasingly valuable commercial sector for the UK.
“We will also be debating some of the key issues facing the cleaning and hygiene industries including raising standards, staffing and sustainability. I know many of our members and partners from across both the UK and Europe are greatly looking forward to it, and we’re confident the Manchester show will be a huge success.”
